Stem cell Therapy

late-2009---early-2010-pix-105-4.jpgStem cells are cells that are capable of differentiating into a variety of tissue types, including: bone, tendon and ligament. In veterinary medicine we are able to use these stem cells to treat arthritis and soft tissue injuries in the knee, hip, shoulder and elbow joints. Stem cell therapy involves taking a small amount of fat from the area around your pet’s shoulder, and sending the fat to a laboratory that will harvest the stem cells. When we receive the cells back from the laboratory, we can inject the cells into the arthritic joint, allowing it to heal itself. Stem cells have been shown to regenerate healthy tissue and signal the body’s own healing cells, calling additional cells to the injured site for improved healing. Stem cell therapy can help improve a pet’s quality of life. Renton West Veterinary Hospital is happy to be able to offer this alternative therapy to its clients and patients. If you have questions regarding stem cell therapy or would like to make an appointment to see if your pet would be a good candidate please call our office for an appointment.
